Project Overview

About This Project

GM Engineering & Project was awarded the complete structural steel package for the Adani Logistics Industrial Warehouse Complex in Ahmedabad. The project involved the design, fabrication, and erection of a 50,000 sq ft multi-bay warehouse facility with integrated mezzanine floors and a dedicated loading dock structure.

The structure comprised primary portal frames in IS 2062 Grade E250 mild steel, secondary purlins and girts in cold-formed sections, and a full mezzanine floor system with composite deck slabs. All fabrication was carried out at our Hansalpur facility and transported to site in pre-assembled modules to minimize erection time.

The project was completed 12 days ahead of schedule, with zero LTI (Lost Time Incidents), and passed all third-party quality inspections on first submission.

Engineering Challenges

Challenges & Solutions

Tight Site Access & Congested Layout

The site was located within an active industrial estate with restricted crane swing radius and limited laydown area, making conventional erection sequences impractical.

Solution

We pre-assembled portal frame bents at our Hansalpur yard and transported them as complete units. A custom erection sequence was developed to allow sequential bay-by-bay erection using a single 80T crane, eliminating the need for a second crane on site.

Accelerated Schedule "” 20% Compression

The client required the structure to be ready for roofing contractor handover 3 weeks earlier than the original programme due to monsoon season constraints.

Solution

We ran parallel fabrication shifts (day + night) at our workshop and deployed an additional erection team. Detailed look-ahead scheduling ensured zero idle time on site. The structure was handed over 12 days ahead of the revised deadline.

High-Load Mezzanine Design Requirement

The client required the mezzanine to carry 10 kN/m² live load for heavy pallet racking "” significantly above standard warehouse design loads.

Solution

Our design team performed value engineering on the beam grid layout, optimising beam depths and spacing to achieve the required capacity while reducing steel tonnage by 8% compared to the initial design. Composite deck with 150mm concrete topping was specified for maximum stiffness.
